Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) of Public Private Partnership schemes.

Abstract:

The guidelines published by Ministry of Rural Development Government of India towards implementing “Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) of Public Private Partnership scheme” frame work between Gram Panchayats and private sector partners. The guidelines are an effort to provide a different framework for implementation of rural infrastructure development schemes and harness private sector efficiencies in the management of assets and delivery of services. The main objectives of these guidelines to develop livelihood opportunities, urban amenities and infrastructure facilities in rural areas to bridge the rural-urban divide. The selected private partners would be required to provide amenities like water supply and sewerage roads, drainage, solid waste management, street lighting and power distribution, skill development and economic development activities. It is concluded that the government’s effort of providing connectivity to rural areas is leading to enhance economic activities. This is helping to develop a framework local people, public authority and private sectors.
